Visual Analysis The Flies - 932 Words
Visual Analysis Summary: The commercial starts out with a dark brown haired woman, named Ashley, sitting on a couch holding a small wooden alien figurine. She then proceeds to say ââ¬Å"I love your apartment Brianâ⬠as a man, Brian, and a monkey are walking up from behind the couch. The monkey climbs over the couch and sits next to Ashley. As the monkey, Frank, sits next to Ashley, Ashley says ââ¬Å"and Frank is so well behavedâ⬠. Brian leaning on the couch from behind says ââ¬Å"yeah weââ¬â¢re best buddyââ¬â¢s. Iââ¬â¢m going to grab some Bud Lightsâ⬠as he points towards his kitchen. Brian then stands up and walks into his kitchen. Ashely now looking at Frank says ââ¬Å"Youââ¬â¢re so cuteâ⬠. Frank puts his arm around Ashley and says ââ¬Å"I think uh youââ¬â¢re cute tooâ⬠. Ashleyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In my opinion, I felt that this Bud Light commercial was mainly targeted toward a predominantly male audience that is over the age of 21. I came to this con clusion since the commercial is about a monkey flirting with a girl trying to hide it from his friend who is also flirting with the girl. Most men can relate to the commercial since they have probably done the same thing. Then obviously its targeted to people over 21 since the commercial is about alcohol and the legal drinking age in the U.S. is 21 years old. I could also see how the commercial could also attract a female audience that is 21 and over because a woman could picture the commercial with the roles reversed and would relate to it. I could see how some people might find this commercial to be offensive. Some people might find that the commercial objectifies the woman since it has a monkey flirting with her and constantly looking at her body. No doubt, this commercial strongly uses the appeal to pathos by using humor. They use the humor to real in the viewersââ¬â¢ attention and notice the product they are selling. Although the commercial had almost nothing to do with Bud Light the humor in the commercial made me pay attention and notice that the commercial was about Bud Light. If the audience didnââ¬â¢t find the commercial at least somewhat humors they would probably not pay attention to the commercial and the advertisement would be a waste of money for the company, but since the commercial was funny it wasShow MoreRelatedIdentifying Subconscious Visual Response From Brain Signal1313 Words à |à 6 PagesIdentifying Subconscious Visual Response from Brain Signal Bhuyain, Md. Strategic Human Resource Management in Bank Central Asia
Introduction Bank central Asia is a financial institution that deals with all kinds of banking activities including foreign exchange and loans disbursements. This is a significant organization for the understanding of strategic human resource management. This is a process that has recently been established in most organizations including Bank central Asia.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Strategic Human Resource Management in Bank Central Asia specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More According to Delery (1998), ââ¬Å"it is the general approach to the strategic management of the human resource which is dependent on the intentions of the future directions that the organization is to takeâ⬠. This organization targets manpower issues over a long time. In this, there is concentration on the type of quality results the company expects, and this considerably determines the structure put in place to achieve these resu lts. These human resource strategies are mostly concerned with the development of the service deliveries in a way that is fair, and for the overall improvement of workforce attitude, eventually leading to positive results in the performance appraisal. Strategic human resource management in Bank central Asia is especially useful in this particular industry, since it establishes an effective system of talent development and specialization capacity. The management structure of Bank central Asia is made up of different people working at different capacities for the success of the organization. This includes the chief executive officer, who is at the top of the leadership structure. He oversees all the activities in the organization, and the other managers report directly to him. Others include the financial manager in charge of finance, sales and marketing manager in charge of advertising and sales of the companyââ¬â¢s products and services. Finally, is the human resource manager, wh ose function is to ensure that the company has a reliable workforce. Besides, he also ensures that the needs of the employees are being met adequately, and that the working conditions are effective for adequate service delivery. Role of managers in determining the success of strategic goals in Bank central Asia One of the most basic roles of managers in this organization is to create a culture for the organization. This is considered to be the most important, since it determines the uniqueness of the organizations and the elements that distinguish it from the other banking institutions. They also determine the philosophy of the organization, and this refers to the guiding principles and believes in the workplace.Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The other role played by managers in Bank central Asia is ensuring that the people in the organization has a motivational facto r that pushes them to work with a positive mindset. Banking can be tiresome owing to the daily responsibilities involved, such as serving the long queue of customers and dealing with figures. The employees therefore need a constant motivation if they are to continue working in the organization for long. This is mostly done by coming up with a reward strategy that encourages hard work and innovation. They create the working environment and maintain it at a level that is conducive to both the employees and the organization at large. The other role played by managers in this organization is to create intra-organizational flows of people related to the strategy of the business. At one time or another, companies are faced with a need to change their strategy. This is mostly as a result of the changing trends in the business world that the organizations have to adapt to if they are to have an advantage in the market. Banks, for example, need to install some automated gadgets that have jus t arrived in the market to enable them serve their customers better. The management function in this regard is to look to it that the alterations have been done and that there are people to handle any new duties introduced into the organization. The next role is that of ensuring that the main executives in the organizations are matched with the strategy of the business. ââ¬Å"This specifically applies mostly to companies that use product portfolio analysis approach to strategic management ,and is brought about by the growing interest in meshing strategic planning with executive skillsâ⬠(Nankervis et al, 2002 pp 108). Managers, especially, in the human resource department are faced with the role of ensuring that the organization has enough number of employees with different capacities helpful to the organization. Being a bank and considering all the daily operations, this organization needs a relatively large number of employees for their service delivery to be effective. This , according to Begin (1992) requires the ââ¬Å"development of a human resource planning system that can come up with accurate forecastsâ⬠(379).This is however faced with two major hitches, the first one being lack of reliable data as a result of incomplete appraisal of employees at the time of hiring.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Strategic Human Resource Management in Bank Central Asia specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The second hitch is the absence of a strong business strategy link. This means that the ââ¬Å"human resource plan is usually a paper exercise most of the time, and it ends up not getting utilized by the strategic decision makers effectivelyâ⬠(Begin, 1992 p. 399). Finally, in an organization such as Bank central Asia, the managers play the role of ââ¬Å"growers, caretakers and undertakersâ⬠(Nankervis et al, 2002). Some organizations have different managers for each of th ese roles, but owing to the profit maximization and cost minimization goals, most modern organizations tend to incorporate all the roles under the job description of one position. This ensures a reduction in cost and increase in effective owing to the belief that more responsibilities lead to greater efficiency in the work place. Under the growerââ¬â¢s role, the management is supposed to develop policies that will expand the business operations, hence increase the amount of services and goods being offered to the customers. As caretakers on the other hand, they ensure that these operations are run effectively and they also monitor the progress and achievements being made. Finally, as undertakers, they deal with the technical part of the organization that requires skills and specific area knowledge. How effective employee management contributes to the success of this organization Employees are an integral part of an organization, and there is no organization that can survive witho ut them. They are the people who run the activities at the ground level and implement the strategies set by the management. Owing to this, the way they are treated is directly related to their performance. Organizations that have regulations in place governing the freedom of employees and their rewards are more successful, since they develop a system that is sensitive to the needs of each individual. Human resource managers are faced with a hard task of managing people unlike the other managers who deal with policies and strategies. They decide when to hire fire or promote. They also determine the remuneration package and the benefits endowed to the employees, in relation to their positions, experience and input into the organization.Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Effective human resource management ensures that the employees have the motivation to work. When they are comfortable with the way they are being treated, they will develop the need to work effectively and ensure that the organization benefits from their input. On the contrary, employees who are not satisfied with the way the management treats them tend to develop an offensive attitude that only leads to poor performance, hence failure to the organization at large. The management can improve or destroy the attitude of the employees towards work. Harassing employees has never been fruitful in any organization. Research into organizations that have a good reputation indicates that they have a system of ensuring that all the employees are treated with respect. Any disrespectful treatment or even the intention of it is dealt with severely, and may lead to consequences as serious as losing oneââ¬â¢s position. An effective remuneration system that is not discriminatory ensures that the employees are satisfied with the treatment they are given a fair treatment. This does not just include the monetary remuneration; it is inclusive of the psychological remuneration in terms of verbal appreciation and recognition for good work or improved performance. This results in a workforce that works towards the best performance, hence improving the general reputation of the organization. Co-orporation among employees leads to the development of unity in work which at the end of day ensures that all duties are performed with a high level of effectiveness. Emotional safety is the important aspect in the performance of an individual in all areas. This means that organizations that look into the psychological needs of their employees stand a better chance of performing well than those who only consider the amount of work done by the employee. At the end of the day, workplace issues such as strikes are usually as a result of emotional instability and not even the amount of remunera tion, as it is made to appear. Another way through which effective management of the employees is able to assist in the achievement of the organizationââ¬â¢s strategic objectives is ensuring that the employees have a reason not to stay longer in the organization. Having to employ new employees more often usually costs the company more in terms of production. New people in the organization take time to adapt to the culture of the organization and this results into slowing down of the activities in that particular department. The factors that determine whether employees are willing to stay longer in the organization include the reward strategy and the working environment. An effective reward strategy is one that ensures the employees are comfortable with their roles and that they do not feel exploited. This may include things like providing them with healthcare cover, miscellaneous expenses allowances and work leaves, once in a while. This will ensure that the employees are able to stay for long in the organization, hence improving their productivity. Assessing and developing training needs in Bank central Asia One of the ways in which training needs are assessed is by talent evaluation and development. One of the things that the human resource managers should consider when hiring the workforce is talent. This will give them an overview of the capacities of these people that they are hiring. Talents can be developed in an organization and this process according to Begin (1992),involves ââ¬Å"transforming the organization its employees and other groups of people involved in its operationsâ⬠(400). One of the ways in which this can be done is facilitating a learning workshop with the aim of training the employees on how to work towards the establishment of competitive advantage in the organization. Once the individual talents have been developed, the organization can be assured of employees that have the interests of the organization at heart hence effect ive delivery of services. Another important need when training employees is the establishment of career development plans. In career development, the employees are able to define their areasof expertise and ensure that they handle tasks related to that which they have specialized in. As a result of this, the organization will be able to achieve its goals more effectively as there will be minimal or no conflict of work interest. Specialization also ensures that the employees are able to handle their responsibilities with expertise leading to a quicker fulfillment of the organizationââ¬â¢s objectives and goals. Finally, assessing the training needs of the employees in an organization requires the company to carry out the process of appraising the performance of the individual employees. Group evaluation is necessary, though it has many setbacks such as the shortcomings of some people being covered up by the achievements of others in the same group. This explains why at some point t he employeesââ¬â¢ performances have to be analyzed at an individual level as this will ensure that training facilities are developed in favor of at least a majority of the needs of the employees. Evaluating and rewarding managers in Bank central Asia Despite the fact that managers, in most cases, are not involved in the ground work they have a huge responsibility of ensuring that all the activities are running smoothly. Most of the times, they are forced to go beyond their normal work definition and make major decisions for the organization to function effectively. They are directly accountable to the owners and stakeholders of the organization. Owing to their difficult tasks of running the company, they have to be remunerated accordingly to their satisfaction. Their performance is mostly determined by the performance of the company in general. An organization cannot perform well if the management is not effective. It is also not possible for an organization to fail if it is unde r good management. This explains why the audit of a company that is not performing well usually begins with the management processes before checking on the other systems. This, therefore, means that the performance of managers is evaluated directly from the analysis of the organizationââ¬â¢s performance. As for the rewards, managers are the highest paid people in any organization. In most cases, they even have shares in the organization. This ensures that they are able to manage the organization effectively to safeguard their shares. Since there is no higher position than management, they have no interest in being promoted and so everything they do is for the organization to grow. Their reward should therefore, be determined according to the amount of responsibilities they handle. Most companies prefer to make their managers as comfortable as possible by providing them with company housing, vehicle and other benefits such as medical for cover extended to family and holiday packag es, once in a while. This gives the managers an incentive to work towards further expansion of the organization, which means that their remuneration also increases proportionately. It is also advisable for a company to develop a system of maintaining their managers until retirement or giving them a longterm contract. This will ensure consistency in the management process; hence guarantee a positive trend of growth. Work place issues affecting the organizationââ¬â¢s strategic goals One of the issues affecting the achievement of an organizationââ¬â¢s strategic goals is the management philosophy. This is determined by the psychological contract entered to by the employees after being employed in the organization. It addresses the ââ¬Å"nature of the exchange between the employees and the organizationâ⬠(Delery, 1998 pp 300). The most common of this type of philosophy is ââ¬Å"fair dayââ¬â¢s work for fair dayââ¬â¢s payâ⬠(Nankervis et al, 2002 pp 120), which is a n indication that employees are paid according to the amount of work that they have done. This is only fair for the case of the employees who are in the habit of hiding behind other peopleââ¬â¢s achievements. However, it becomes unfair whereby some people might be out of work for very genuine reasons yet they lose their pay for being absent. In such a case, it reduces the motivation for the employees and some even end up quitting. The organization is not in a position to maintain its employees due to lack of incentive. To address this issue, the organization had to come up with a system that monitored the performance of the employees. They were rewarded not for turning up for work but for the quality of work done. This ensured that the employees came to work regularly and also developed the urge to work hard to improve their productivity as this is what was being rewarded. With time, an employee would be able to earn bonus points for continued good performance and this would moti vate them to improve better. New employees would be motivated by appreciating the slightest efforts to improve performance and this would ensure that they have something to look forward to if the purpose to work harder. The result of this action was that the performance of employees improved at a very high rate and the rate of labor turnover reduced meaning that more employees decided to remain in the organization and climb up the ladder by working hard. Conclusion From the above discussion, it is clear that Bank central Asia cannot do without the strategic human resource management department. This literally determines the direction the organization takes as well as whether it will grow or remain stagnant for a long time. Employees form an integral part of the entire organization and this explains why any department under human resource has to be considered with great concern. Employees who are not satisfied with their working conditions or remuneration package may end up being a l iability to the organizations. Again, having to bring in new employees each now and then costs the company a lot of revenue in terms of time and productivity. Therefore, the strategic human resource management has to be considered with great importance as it determines the general performance of the organization. Hate Speech essays
Hate Speech essays The unnatural and inexplicable along with the loss of control over something seemingly powerless are two of mankinds most potent fears. Mr. Senanayak, the Bengali specialist in combat and extreme-left politics, and Captain Arjan Singh, leader of Operation Forest Jharkhani, are forced to face these very fears when they pursue the rebel Dopdi in Mahasweta Devis Draupadi. Dopdi, the Bengali tribal woman also known as Draupadi, does not conform to the status quo of her class or her gender. Neither does she submit to oppression from the upper class, the government, or her society. Furthermore, she helps do away with the command assumed by the government over the tribal people and the untouchables. Even after the soldiers physically degrade her, she cannot be disheartened and thus she is able to maintain power and control over her captors. This insurgence terrifies the government officials and the agents; especially Senanayak and Arjan Singh. To her oppressors, Draupadi is the manifestatio n of their worst fears. Not only does she dispel their power over the downtrodden, but she is unnatural and able to gain power from the physical torment and torture forced upon her. Dopdis defiance causes her to break several societal expectations of her class and time. The very name Draupadi defies the boundaries of her class. As mentioned by the Liveries, Surja Sahus wife, an Indian, gives Draupadi her name. The name, which belongs to a character in the Mahabharata, is reserved solely for those Indians who are descended from the Aryans. The tribal people pre-dating the Aryan invasion have no right to heroic Sanskrit names. (p. 183) Also, the tribal people are considered untouchables throughout the story. They are considered unfit for any labor above the level of farming and are taken advantage of by the higher castes. Dopdis husband, Dulna, wants to be the ...

The school will initially pursue a goal of enrolling domestic and international students in an online program with a 4 week on-site seminar in London conducted yearly. In initiating operations, the school will market to and see the enrollment of both foreign and domestic students. PART 2: BUSINESS PLAN: 1. Introduction In building and establishing a Business School in London with an intention of offering MBA (Masters of Business Administration) degrees to international and domestic students, the most important factor s are the business plan, philosophy of education, and location. In searching for the ethos for the school, the general approach to business that would guide operations from a position of philosophy, the management committee evaluated the writing, work, and experience of many of the top 100 CEOs internationally and historically. One of the most respected CEOs is Jack Welch, the former General Electric business leader who is well known for innovation in the corporate sphere and managing companies at the highest level. Jack Welch is currently associated with an online MBA school in the United States that offers an affordable business education to students anywhere in the world. ââ¬Å"As a part of his effort to provide quality educations at an affordable cost, the Jack Welch Management Institute moves away from the stereo type business institutions that charge their students an average $100,000 for a MBA degree . On average, The Jack Welch Management Institute charges $600 per credit h our. This translates to students receiving an accredited MBA degree for just over $20,000. The realization of his dream for a management institute came through the coming together of a group of investors led by Michael Clifford who purchased the ailing Myers University in Cleveland in 2008. These investors hammered out a deal with Welch to establish the Jack Welch Institute of Management based on his management style and philosophy that brought him and general electric to the heights they both attained in society.â⬠(OnlineEdu, 2010) As a start-up business venture, the MBA School proposed for establishment in London will follow the online MBA program model given as example in the Jack Welch Management Institute and seek to provide affordable, world-class business education to students worldwide in the form of an online-only school. 2. Overview of International Business School The first aspect required for the development of the project of creating an online MBA program for inte rnational and domestic students is to create a management team and business plan for the venture. Health Care in United States Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Health Care in United States - Term Paper Example United States of America and Italy are two very different countries; the major differences are in culture of the people living in these countries. There are major differences in how doctors in these countries deal with pain management. The process of child birth is the most beautiful process and thoroughly enjoyed and cherished for the parents. Every precious thing comes at a hefty price, the hefty price is the pain suffered by the mother in this whole process. The mother undergoes the experience of tremendous pain in this whole process of giving birth. This paper is going to examine the methods adopted by the doctors to handle the pain which is suffered during the whole process. These methods will be examined as they are carried out in two countries namely, methods in Italy and methods in United States of America. "Peridural anesthesia is an effective technique for providing analgesia during labor and delivery. The fact that it is not at all widely used in Italy can be ascribed to the lack of technical knowledge among health-care providers and the lack of information available to pregnant women." (Epidural Analgesia, 29 November 2008). Peridural anesthesia's main function is to reduce the pain which occurs during childbirth, in order to perform surgeries the doctors inject Peridural anesthesia in the spinal column with the help of a needle or a tube in a patient. The same reduces the pain significantly and it is used in many countries. "Epidural anesthesia is an attractive alternative to general anesthesia for a person who has medical complications that might make it difficult to tolerate or recover from general anesthesia." (Epidural Anesthesia) Italy is an exceptional country and does not follow the technique of regional anesthesia during childbirth and the method is almost obscure in the southern parts of the country. Most of the surgeons in Italy consider general option over regional anesthesia, they firmly believe in the notion that general anesthesia is relatively much safer than regional anesthesia. It is believed by many surgeons in Italy who handle the case of childbirth that the use epidural anesthesia gives rise to neurological complications. This perception of the surgeons in Italy is challenged by many, "According to Koll (1) out of 1541 reports of injury following anesthesia, more than half of the 227 cases of neurological damage were related to general anesthesia. In another survey conducted by INSERM (France), 19 accidents (6 of which were fatal) were reported, accounting for 0.43% of 4430 administrations of spinal anesthesia. In this last survey approximately 70% of the patients were elderly and therefore, pr esented a higher risk of complications. A survey in our hospital reveals 2 non-fatal accidents related to 6690 administrations of spinal anesthesia. Therefore, the rate of complications for spinal anesthesia in our hospital is 0.02%. These data show that the number of serious complications related to spinal techniques is not higher than that of general anesthesia." (Epidural Analgesia). There are various risks involved in the use of Peridural anesthesia, when anesthesia is used on a patient who has never been examined before, the anesthetic risk in that particular case rises to alarming high levels on the contrary it is found that the

I will also discuss how accurately the songs reflect the mood, value, and perceptions of the 1950s as discussed in our readings, Nation of Nations. ââ¬Å"All I Have To Do Is Dreamâ⬠The first song I would like to address would be: ââ¬Å"All I Have To Do Is Dream,â⬠by the Everly Brothers. This song reiterates the basic ideology of the 1950s associated with ââ¬Å"the good life. The song offers a neat synopsis of the mood, values, and perceptions of this era, for example, the song states ââ¬Å"only trouble is, gee whiz, Iââ¬â¢m dreaminââ¬â¢ my life awayâ⬠¦. â⬠This quote shows the leisure time available to Americans, it also reflects the time of hope during this era. The song also reflects a strong sense of optimism, confidence, and overall comfort afforded by this era. This song also seems to echo the general sentiments of the time in terms of the open attitudes toward sex with some of the romantic lyrics. Since the baby boom initiated during this era the lyrics to the mood and values are represented in the lyrics above. Since America emerged from World War II, in this era this song reinforces the American Dream. The song gives the mood and perception of happiness at having a secure job, owning a house, etcâ⬠¦ ââ¬Å"A Lot of Livinââ¬â¢ To Doâ⬠ââ¬Å"A Lot of Livinââ¬â¢ To Doâ⬠by Sammy Davis Jr. , Mr. Davis represents both the African American and Hispanic races and this songââ¬â¢s lyrics also embody the era because of the references to the ââ¬Å"good lifeâ⬠with ââ¬Å"And thereââ¬â¢s wine, already for tasting. And thereââ¬â¢s Cadillacââ¬â¢s, all shiny and new. Gotta move, cause time is wasting. Thereââ¬â¢s such a lot of livinââ¬â¢ to do. â⬠These lyrics indicate the era because it was called ââ¬Å"the culture of consumption. â⬠The Americans experienced a large scale of spending during this time period. The songââ¬â¢s reference to fancy cars shows that consumerââ¬â¢s values definitely dominated the American economy and culture during the 1950ââ¬â¢s. A Combination of Lyrics Through my research for this assignment I found several songs that reflected the moods of this era that did not relate to the ââ¬Å"good lifeâ⬠that I would like to touch base on. My Captainâ⬠by Muddy Waters clearly reflects on the issues of the difficult working conditions for an African-American man in a big city. Their lyrics reveal racial undertones as well as the tensions and divisions within America at the time. Two other lyrics that I felt were important regarding this e ra was ââ¬Å"Korean War Bluesâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Eisenhower Bluesâ⬠by J. B. Lenoir. These songs reflect the political strive associated with containing communism during this era and the political paranoia underlying the times. The connection to the mood, perceptions, values, and politics are found in the words from the song ââ¬Å"Korean War Blues,â⬠ââ¬Å"Lord I got my questionnaire, Uncle Samââ¬â¢s gonna send me away from here; Lord I got my questionnaire, Uncle Samââ¬â¢s gonna send me away from here; He said J. B. you know that I need you, Lord I need you in South Korea. â⬠These lines reinforce the fear and the paranoia associated with the Red Scare and containment. Yakety-Yak The final song on my list is ââ¬Å"Yakety-Yakâ⬠by The Coasters, this song again reflects on the eraââ¬â¢s carefree attitude and the triumphant mood of democracy in a light way. It was also a time for teenage rebellion due to the introduction of rock-n-roll. Many adults, parents, and teachers opposed rock and roll as an emerging genre and form of social protest. The lyrics of this song exemplify the generation gap and strain as the kids were fighting for freedom from the adults, ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t you give me no dirty looks, your fatherââ¬â¢s hip, he knows what cooks, just tell you hoodlum friends outside, you ainââ¬â¢t got time to take a ride, Yakety yak, donââ¬â¢t talk back. â⬠Conclusion Through the course of research for this paper I learned a great deal about the moods, values, perceptions, and politics that were expressed through songs. Even though some of the songs reflected a casual happy life style there were also the songs that reflected the imperfections of the era. This was a difficult time due to the war ending, desegregation was taking place, and it was also the time of the baby boomers. Through the songs of the 1950ââ¬â¢s I discovered that many artists were able to vocalize their own point f view on the events of the era.
